Google Calendar is an integrative calendar that helps you with organization and time management. It is one of the most complete and popular apps that exists today.
There are many functions such as scheduling events, integration with other Apps, and it is used both in professional environments and for personal use for all users.
Introduction to Google Calendar
As we are used to, Google has its own ecosystem so you do not have to resort to another app provider, and you can stay within what Google offers you. In terms of its design, its intuitive and easy to use interface allows different customization options.
Accessibility and Storage
- Accessibility: As expected, it is available as a mobile app for Android and IOS and can also be accessed from any web browser using the address calendar.google.com. Just by having an internet connection, you can enjoy its services.
- Space Required: The app occupies between 20 and 25 MB slowly on the device is quite light, but it is also important to know that the space may vary depending on the version used.
Settings and Customization
Google calendar gives you different options to customize and configure according to your specific needs.
- Calendar Views: The user can change yearly, monthly, weekly or daily interviews and is customizable to for example only show work days or calendar events.
- Colors and Labels: All events can be color coded with a specific color, which facilitates organization and a quick view. An example of this is to distinguish personal events from work or important tasks from others that are not a priority.
- Notifications and Reminders: Allows also to customize reminders and notifications to be by text message, email, or push on your phone.
- Integration with Other Apps: A strong point of this app is its ability to integrate with other services, which adds points to its functionality.
Integration with Gmail
It is interesting to mention that events can be automatically generated from Gmail messages.
An example of this is that when you receive your flight ticket confirmation, google adds this event to your calendar automatically, this autonomous management avoids you having to manually upload the events personally.
- Synchronization with other Google Apps: Another important feature is that it integrates with Google Meet, Google Keep and Google Tasks, which centralizes the management and frankly saves a lot of time.
- API and Zapier: For business users, Google Calendar offers a robust API that allows custom integrations with non Google third party apps. Some services like Zapier allow automating volumes and workflows between Google Calendar and other apps.
Additional features
- Recurring Events:
Offers scheduling recurring events with various frequency options as well as scheduling recurrence duration intervals.
- Calendar Sharing:
Google Calendar lets you share the entire calendar with other users, which is very useful in work teams or for families.
- Public Events and Holidays:
It includes the option to add holidays according to your country and public events which allows you to plan non-working days.
My take on Google Calendar
I have found it very useful. As a point in its favor, the integration with other apps is fluid and simple, which I think is very convenient. As for the automation of Gmail, I found it indispensable for my day-to-day life as it saves me a lot of manual loading time.
On many devices, it comes preinstalled with all the Google pack, which I think is a good strategy of Google to offer the solution without you having to look for it. In comparison with other apps, this one is definitely the most powerful. My only complaint is that some integrations with third party apps may require some technical knowledge.
Pros:
- Access from multiple devices and web browsers.
- Intuitive and user-friendly interface.
- Customizable notifications and reminders.
Cons:
- Small storage space.
- Some integrations with third party apps may require technical knowledge.
- Advanced customization can be complicated for new users.
